Picture Books Foster the Love of Reading Anything

Even the simplest of picture books, read to the youngest baby, fosters a lifetime of reading. That’s what I believe, and it is always nice to run across the supportive research, or in other cases, blog posts that suggest the same.

Read Alouds

Even the simplest of picture books, like the words and texture-based, “Pat the Bunny”, lead to reading classic literature.

In the comment section at Money Saving Mom, in response to “How to Get Your Children Excited About Read-Alouds”, I wrote, What an absolutely wonderful post! I really like what you said about everything, but what stands out to me are the picture books… and becoming friends with the library. We go to the library often… I remember…that by starting with picture books when I was a kid, I was super-excited to move onto books without illustrations, and having my mother read aloud chapter books was a very soothing and comforting way to end the day…!!!

Rather than go on more about my thoughts on the love of picture books and how that leads to the love of reading, here’s the wonderful blog post that says it so well. Money Saving Mom wrote, “How to Get Your Children Excited About Read-Alouds” and the warm and enthusiastic article post can be found here. The importance of picture books, libraries and more! Love it. Thank you, Money Saving Mom! (I like your name, too!”
